No panic in schools

There were no signs of panic in the schools in the city where the swine flu outbreak was detected in the last fortnight.

There were no signs of panic in the schools in the city where the swine flu outbreak was detected in the last fortnight. Attendance in Abhinav,Symbiosis and Seva Sadan, which reopened only on Monday, was over 95 per cent on Tuesday. In fact,in some of these schools, the students who have fully recovered from swine flu also started coming to schools after the prescribed quarantine period.

Even after the news about the death of Reeda Shaikh broke on Monday night, most of the affected schools in the city saw a good turnout of the students on Tuesday. “There are no signs of panic from parents’ side and the school is functioning as per routine,” said Jaya Bhaskar, principal of Abhinav English Medium School.

Bhaskar said the attendance in every class was nearly 95 per cent. “As we have already told all parents about the care to be taken in case their child catches cough, cold or fever, there is no confusion among parents,” she said.

“We have asked our students not to go in public places like shopping malls or cinema halls. In school too,we are avoiding crowding of students. We are giving instructions without assembling the students together,” she said. “We are virtually screening every student if he/she has caught cough, cold or fever,” she added.

Leena Chaudhari, principal of Symbiosis School said the school authorities had been instructing the students on how to increase the resistance power. “We have reopened after a week’s gap but we had almost full attendance in every class. The parents are very cooperative and are following the instructions properly,” she said.

“We have been told by the authorities that henceforth if a case gets detected in the school, the particular class only should be shut. We are following the guidelines,” said Bhaskar.

Meanwhile, the secondary education department of the Pune Zilla Parishad will be reviewing the 11 schools where swine flu patients were detected on Wednesday.
