No full-time principals,no eligibility certificate: UoP

Students applying for admissions to as many as 14 colleges from Ahmednagar,36 colleges from Nashik and 65 colleges from Pune, which do not have full-time principals ,will face problems in the procedure this year.

Students applying for admissions to as many as 14 colleges from Ahmednagar,36 colleges from Nashik and 65 colleges from Pune, which do not have full-time principals ,will face problems in the procedure this year. The reason: the University of Pune has stopped accepting the applications for eligibility certificates of first-year students applying to these colleges. This step comes as a response to the Supreme Court directive that all colleges which do not yet have full-time principals, latest by May 31,should not give admission to students.

The correct procedure for colleges, according to a senior official,University of Pune (UoP),should have been to obtain a stay order from the court. “Since many of the colleges did not do the needful, the University has no other option but to stall the acceptance of the eligibility forms from these students,” said he.

“The University has already given out clear directives. A complete list giving the names of colleges in Ahmednagar,Nashik and Pune which do not have principals and directors have been put up on the website and each development has been updated. Even after that if students choose to seek admission in such colleges, the University is in no way responsible,” added the official.

The last date for the acceptance of the online forms were September 7. The students cannot take admission in colleges without a proper eligibility form and since many of the colleges have yet not been able to appoint a principal, the students applying to these colleges will have to face trouble.

However, the next step for these colleges is to obtain an extension from the SC.

“We can only accept the forms of students if these colleges get an extension from the court. We will only accept the forms after we get a go ahead from the court,” said he.

Also,6 colleges in Ahmednagar,12 in Nashik and 31 in Pune which do not have full-time directors will also have to go through a similar procedure to ensure the admission of students to these colleges.
