A newborn was found abandoned on a duct on the premises of Bharati Hospital in Katraj on Saturday morning. Police said the baby was only a few hours old. He has been admitted to the hospital and a search is on for the parents. Doctors said he is out of danger.
The baby was spotted by a hospital staffer at 6 am in a duct near the casualty ward. Sub-inspector GM Landage of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station said,
The babys hand was stuck in a pipe and he was crying. The staffer informed the authorities and the doctors admitted him to the neonatal intensive care unit. At the time the child was found,only one woman was admitted for delivery and she and her baby were in the hospital. The child was abandoned by an unidentified person.
The police have registered an offence under Section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years) of the Indian Penal Code.
We have informed other police stations and are working on leads, he added.
