New lease

When 33 year old Rehman Inamdar from Ahmednagar had seizures (fits) for the first time in December 2009,he never imagined that he could be suffering from a serious brain disease,certainly not a brain tumor. A CT scan by his local physician revealed excessive bone thickening in the base of his brain. He was prescribed medicines to control his fits. But two new episodes of seizures in short gaps with loss of consciousness got him and his family seriously worried. A MRI scan revealed a large tumor in the anterior cranial fossa . The tumor was the size of a tennis ball and was compressing major vessels of the brain and nerve for vision (the optic nerve). He was given a guarded prognosis and was advised to seek a neurosurgeon’s guidance. Dr Rakesh Ranjan,consultant of neurosurgery at the Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital operated upon him. The tumor was solid like a bone,but could be removed completely with the major vessels of the brain and nerves intact. Rehman is now enjoying a fresh new lease of life.
