NCP will face challenge from Congress

The newly constituted panel includes the area covered under Kharadi gaothan electoral ward and Kharadi Infotech Park electoral ward. Both the wards are presently represented by NCP corporators indicating that the delimitation would not hamper the NCP chances from the panel. The only opposition is expected from the Congress that has a meagre presence in the area.

Sitting corporator Bapu Pathare has been elected to the state legislative assembly from the Wadgaonsheri assembly segment. The other ward is represented by Suman Pathare of NCP. The panel has a reservation of other backward class (OBC) and open category women. Therefore,the effort to rope in male candidate from the family to replace him in PMC is ruled out for Bapu Pathare.

Confident after his win in assembly polls,Pathare has taken up responsibility to ensure victory of NCP candidates from the area and has a uphill task to get an OBC candidate elected from the panel. “I have to look up for a good OBC candidate for the party to contest in the panel. It’s my hometown and I don’t want any other party to take advantage of the reservation,” he said.

Earlier,the area had domination of Congress with Congress leader Chandrakant Chhajed representing it as an MLA . Pathare shifted from Congress to NCP which reduced Congress’ strength. The new voters residing in the residential complex will play a major role in the forthcoming civic polls. The area has seen development after the Infotech Park came into being.
