A day before the monsoon session of the state legislature begins on Monday,senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders held a closed door meeting in the city in which they discussed strategies to counter a likely attack by opposition parties on issues such as Mantralaya fire,female foeticide and water crisis.
The party also discussed plans for the election of three seats in the legislative council.
NCP chief Shard Pawar,Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar,Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Chhagan Bhujbal,Rural Development Minister Jayant Pawar,Home Minister R R Patil,State NCP president Madhukar Pichad,State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anil Deshmukh and State Water Resources Minister Sunil Tatkare participated in the meeting at the Old Circuit House.
While Pawar refused to speak to reporters,Bhujbal said,The agenda of the meeting was do devise strategy for the election of the three seats of legislative council. We have received over 70 names of aspirants,but the list is yet to be finalised. Maduhkar Pichad will declare the names in Mumbai soon.
When asked if the Opposition parties would target him on the Mantralaya fire,he said,I have already clarified that it is not a responsibility of PWD department alone. We should take collective responsibility on the incident.
