Nana Patekar to farmers: ‘Don’t wait for Achhe Din, instal the government you want’

Actor Nana Patekar, who is known for articulating his views aggressively, on Tuesday urged farmers not to demand anything from the government as he slammed parties over the political upheaval that Maharashtra has witnessed in the last couple of years.

While speaking at a “Shetkari Sammelan” in Nashik, Nana Patekar said, “They should not wait for good times but they should bring in good times through tenacity. You should decide which government will come to power,” he said.

Patekar, who along with actor Makarand Anaspure runs the Naam Foundation which helps farmers in the drought-prone areas of Maharashtra, said, “When gold rates are rising, why aren’t the prices of rice going up? Farmers provide food for the entire nation but the government has no time to resolve their grievances. Farmers should not demand anything from such a government”.

Taking a jibe at political parties, Patekar asked, “What kind of ideal are you setting before the young generation? What are you up to? I can’t join politics, because I am an outspoken person.”

Patekar also urged farmers to not die by suicide. “We should all put a united effort to change the current situation,” he said.
