With a wide range of available alternatives, choosing a career is as complex as easy. Through this column,we find out from young Puneites what leads them to their choice of profession
From my chi ldhood I have always been interested in numbers. In fact after standard twelfth when I decided to pursue a graduation in Economics from Fergusson College,I had pretty much thought of getting ahead in this field. Once I finished with my graduation, which was a rewarding experience,I went to pursue a Masters in corporate finance from Warrick Business School. I think both of these degrees helped me choose and make my decisions well.
Once I returned from Warrick,I had a good job in Pune. While my stint in a big corporate set up taught me a lot,I recently joined a private equity start-up firm, that invests in real estate. Initially when I was making the shift,I remember, people around me did not approve of it. Fear was instilled in me by their views ,though my parents continued to be supportive. I always believe that big companies made it big, but they started with a small idea and so I thought that this firm would be a good chance to open up opportunities.
Plus,I have a lot more to contribute here,as there are so many more responsibilities to handle. In fact currently I am learning a lot right from how a business is handled end to end to the finer details of finance. Looking back ,I feel glad that I took this decision, because I know for sure that I will walk out of it with more entrepreneurial skills and a world of experience to carry forward.
