After taking part in a slew of music contests during college,it was in 2005 that electronics and telecommunications engineer Kedar Bhagwat decided to move from Pune to Mumbai in order to make a career in music. Inspiration hit him at an unlikely moment,when while rummaging though his fathers cupboard after his demise Bhagwat came across a diary of poems and songs written by his father. My father,Dr DA Bhagwat,was a chemistry professor at SP College in Pune. We did not know that he maintained a collection of his songs and poems. It came as a bittersweet surprise, says the 30-year-old.
After spending two years composing the perfect music to suit his fathers lyrics,Bhagwat came up with the song Shwaas mee,as part of his new album,titled Sonasade. I went to see Hariharanji with a rough recording of my track. He loved it and agreed to record the song immediately, says Bhagwat,adding that it is a devotional song reflecting the gratitude of a human being towards the Almighty. I wanted to use only the best musicians and artistes for the song. It is a tribute to my father, says Bhagwat.
Young Bhagwat has earlier worked as a music arranger with the likes of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia,Pandit Jasraj,Shankar Mahadevan,Shaan,Kunal Ganjawala,Javed Ali and Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar for more than 20 music albums. He has composed background scores for many television serials as well,and has arranged music for Marathi films Jaagran and Kartabgaar,which will be released soon.
