Missing boy found dead in quarry,cops suspect suicide

Onkar Ajay Hanmante,14,missing from his Kalas home since Tuesday morning,was found dead in an abandoned quarry in Vishrantwadi on Thursday. Police suspect he committed suicide. Senior inspector Manik Akolkar of Vishrantwadi police said Hanmante,a class IX student of an English medium school in Kalas,had gone missing on Tuesday morning. “The was fished out from the quarry and was not identified initially. We looked in the missing list,and called Hanmante’s parents after the description matched with that of the body. The parents told us that they had scolded him for not going to school,but had no idea that he would resort to such an extreme step.”

Police said Hanmante’s father Ajay is a security guard and his mother works as domestic help. A case of accidental death has been registered and the body handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. Police said the autopsy report cited drowning as cause of death. “At this stage,we cannot be sure that he has committed suicide,but we suspect that. Only further investigation can confirm it,” Akolkar added.
