Meet on poverty,health on Monday

Samir Brahmachari will inaugurate the meet organised in collaboration with the health and development surveillance networks at Vadu in Pune,Ballabhgad,AIIMS and the Chest Research foundation.

The meeting aims at sharing INDEPTH networks’s long-term vision. The network has conducted research that has even helped define health policy in various countries. The meeting aims at providing a peer interchange forum for exchanging information and concepts among researchers,development partners,and various governments. There will be sessions on issues like impact of immunisation on the association between poverty and child survival,teenage pregnancies — risks and consequences,sexual and reproductive health and others.

The Vadu health and demographic surveillance system,which is a member of INDEPTH network,was initiated in 2003 and independently tracks vital events including births,deaths,causes of death,migrations and marriages and also monitors trends in fertility.

The Vadu rural health programme is an unique experiment in public private partnership between KEM hospital and the zilla parishad in 22 villages of the Shirur taluka.
