Members of the medical fraternity take time out to share their New Year resolutions
They say promises are made to be broken and so are the new-year resolutions. Well, that remains an open-ended question. Unfolding yet another package of expected and unexpected happenings in the new year, several minds gear up to resolve something new, something different. And we have saviours of mankind, members of the medical fraternity coming up with their resolutions for 2009 as well.
“I want to give my patients the best quality treatment and at an affordable price,” says Dr Ankit Khanna,a cosmetologist, implantologist and periodontist who already has two clinics in the city and plans to open a third one. Echoing similar sentiments,Dr Kiran Bhise, laproscopy and endoscopy surgeon as well as director in charge of department of surgery and minimal invasive surgery,Lokmanya Hospital says,”My new year resolution is to reach out to as many people as possible and to give better medical facilities to my patients at reasonable prices”.
For Dr Manoj Pradhan, well known cardiac surgeon at the Jahangir Hospital, when it comes to New Year resolution, the candid resolve comes as,”I would like to practice what I preach. I often advise my patients to lead a healthy lifestyle synonymous with lots of physical exercises but I am myself unable to follow it. So I hope to stick to my resolve throughout 2009.”
Not very much into resolutions,Dr Shona Nag,an oncologist associated with Jehangir and Sayahdri Hospitals says,”I don’t make too many resolutions but in the coming year I would like to work towards bringing India on the cancer treatment map of the world. We need to come up with original therapies of cancer treatment and adopt better ways of handling cancer cases. Personally,I would try to spend more time with my kids as well as try and have more control over my temper.”
They are doctors curing several patients everyday, ridding them of their aches and pains. Dawning the traditional doctor’s coat, its not only resolutions to offer better treatment that they make but also to focus more on how to prevent an unhealthy condition so that there is less suffering in the first case. “As a Spine surgeon,I would like to work on how to prevent back pain,” resolves Dr Rege Amol, consultant spine surgeon at aditya birla,Jehangir and Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital. “In the coming year we also need to focus on improving the services in trauma centers and services to the aged patients,” adds he.
Give it the name of resolutions or call it goal setting, improvement in medical facilities, cost effective treatments, preventive measures are plans that doctors in the city are planning to embark on in 2009 and keeping in mind the trust that we have on the life savers, let’s hope their resolutions also stand the test of time.
