Mayor and NCP corporator Rajlaxmi Bhosale on Wednesday gave a parting advice to her fellow corporators to forget political differences and work in a united manner to solve city’s four major problems and issues – garbage disposal, river pollution, metro rail and water supply.

Bhosale, who had taken the reigns in March 2007,attended her last general body meeting on Wednesday. Touched by the good words that corporators cutting across party lines spoke about her for more than an hour, mayor said,“I am moved by what you spoke about me. I thank you all for that for their help and brightening my tenure as the mayor. The women corporators always gave me support in testing times. During my tenure,I strived to take Pune on the international map. I got to learn a lot.”

Bhosale said,“Even though I am satisfied about my tenure,at the same time,I am worried about a few things. Especially, issues like garbage, drainage getting mixed into the river, many fringe areas getting poor water supply, and the proposed metro rail are some of important issues. Therefore, all the corporators should forget politics and work in a united manner on these issues.”

The mayoral elections are on November 27 and the new mayor has to take charge on December 1.

The election for the post of mayor and deputy mayor was postponed by four months due to Assembly polls in October even after the two-and-a-half-year term for the two posts had expired on July 31.

The state urban development department had temporarily postponed the elections by four months till November 30.
