Act Now!,a web campaign launched by Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samitee (MANS) to petition lawmakers to enact the law against black magic ahead of the winter session of Assembly has been garnering huge response.
An offline campaign introduced on the same lines a few weeks ago has also generated widespread response,including those from certain sections of the Warkari community,organisers said. Around 10,000 netizens have signed the petition and extended their support to convert the ordinance against black magic into a law. The number of supporters who are taking part in the offline campaign is expected to cross 10-lakh mark.
MANS executive president Avinash Patil said Act Now! campaign has evoked excellent response. The law is against fraudulent and exploitative practices. The ordinance is clear about the fact that proposed law is against the evil and sinister practices thriving on ignorance and not against God or any religion. The law aims to bring social awakening and should be passed at the earliest, he said.
Patil said eminent personalities,like social worker Dr Prakash Amte,science writer Achyut Godbole,actress Sonali Kulkarni and director Atul Pethe have extended support. MANS is scheduled to submit its district-wise response to the campaign to the chief minister ahead of the Winter session of Assembly that begins from December 9.
