Tired of standing in long queues or staving off the agents at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the city?

Not any more. All you have to do now is sit at home and log on to http://www.rtopune.info.

The new improved RTO website just got more user-friendly and informative for the general public.

From the link to book an appointment online for the learner’s license to the question bank uploaded on the website where one can give a dummy computerised test,the site seeks to makes things less complicated for commuters.

“With the dummy test,the candidates can get an idea of the type of questions asked during driving tests. Almost everybody is familiar with Internet these days so this will save a lot of time,” said Chandrakant Kharatmal,regional transport officer.

The website also has directives on the unique SMS facility and public can give feedback or register their complaints regarding public service vehicles. All you have to do is type RTO,followed by space,your complaint and send it to 59994. For example: RTO autorickshaw number XYZ is charging extra fare from Swargate to Pune Station.

The new website has a link ‘Attractive Numbers’ that provides a list of popular registration numbers and the charges for two-wheelers,three-wheelers and four-wheelers.

The home page is replete with colorful illustrations that convey messages about road safety measures and traffic rules. In one such illustration,for instance,a man is shown driving a scooter wearing a helmet,while there is a woman riding in full speed minus the helmet. The illustration says ‘Driving to care,not to dare’.

“We have also uploaded files of forms for vehicle transfer,registration,licence and others in pdf format. This will enable the public to download the required form,fill it and submit it to the RTO office,” said Kharatmal.

“More features will added as we are still in the process of upgrading the website. Though a part of it is done,there are other links,which need to be updated,like the link ‘Statistics’,which will be ready in a month,will provide information about the number of registrations done in a year,funds issued and allocated,recovery amount and other details,” added Kharatmal.
