LLPA extends swine flu break

The Labour Law Practitioners’ Association has decided to extend its swine flu break by another week.

The Labour Law Practitioners’ Association (LLPA) has decided to extend its swine flu break by another week. Around 200 labour and industrial lawyers associated with LLPA have not been attending the court since August 11.

“We have unanimously decided to wait for another week before resuming work,” said advocate Rajesh Shaligram, vice president of LLPA. Though other public institutions like schools and colleges will reopen on Thursday,Shaligram said,“As we cannot begin work in the middle of the week,we have decided to resume from August 24,which is a Monday.”

While the work of filing fresh litigations will continue, hearing of ongoing cases has been kept on hold. The labour and industrial courts for Pune district are housed in the PMPML commercial building at Swargate. “On a given day,at least 150 to 200 people, including those from the outskirts of the city, visit the two courts. Hence, this measure was necessary to avoid crowding at the two courts,” Shaligram said.

The LLPA has expressed its willingness to work during the week-long Christmas vacation and month-long summer vacation in May to compensate for this break.
