Konde wins rapid chess c’ship

Gaurav Konde of BMCC on Sunday won the 23rd Rapid Chess Championship organised jointly by the Pune District Chess Association and the Global Mind Sports Foundation.

Gaurav Konde of BMCC on Sunday won the 23rd Rapid Chess Championship organised jointly by the Pune District Chess Association and the Global Mind Sports Foundation.

Konde,who had earlier won the third edition of the tournament in April,triumphed in this edition with 6.5 points to his name. He won a cash prize of Rs 1,500 and a trophy. Pushkaraj Bedekar came in second with 5.5 points/33 Buch while Kiran Panditrao came in third with 5.5 points/30.5 Buch.

The best player in the under-10 category was Abhimanyu Puranik of Symbiosis School while Sanat Mharolkar of Gurukul School was adjudged the best player in the under-14 category.

The best woman’s player trophy went to Aakanksha Hagawane of DES School and the Best Veteran’s trophy went to Prakash Karmarkar.

A total of fifty players participated in the competition,including 14 rated payers. The chief arbiter was Rajendra Shidore.

Results: Gaurav Konde (6.5) beat Pushkaraj Bedekar (5.5); Kiran Panditrao (5.5) beat Krishnamoorthy Srinath (5); Pavan Katkade(5) lost to Nikhil Dixit (5.5); Shailesh Jaiswar (4.5) lost to Kapil Lohana (5); Kanaad Aphale (5) beat Vikram Mavlankar (4); Bharat Sonkamble (4) lost to Abhimanyu Puranik (5); Sanat Mharolkar (5) beat Hrishikesh Gokhale (4); Akalpit Gadre (5) beat Akanksha Hagawane (4); Santosh Gaikwad (4) lost to Amit Gyanchandani (4.5); Prakash Karmarkar (3.5) lost to Ketan Khaire (4.5).
