New museum in Maharashtra’s Pune offers a deeper study of Jain, Indian values
Among the highlights are the Rishabhdev statue, drawing attention to 2the first Tirthankar.

Spread across 3.5 lakh sq ft and created over 10 years at a cost of Rs 400 crore, Maharashtra’s newest museum, Abhay Prabhavana, offers deep insights into Jain philosophy and Indian heritage.
“The purpose of the museum is to promote the values of Jainism, indeed the values of the entire Indic culture…. I strongly believe that the 3Es that are implicit in the Jain tradition are also inherent in the Indian civilisational character. Our first E is Education, the second E is enterprise and the third E is Ethics. The three Es help towards a fulfilling life and the spiritual elevation of the individual,” said Abhay Firodia, Chairman of the Amar Prerana Trust, who has established the museum and knowledge centre. The opening of the museum on Tuesday coincided with his 80th birthday.
Dignitaries, such as Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Maneka Gandhi, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment and Forests, erstwhile royalty Kumar Lakshyaraj Singh of Mewar, Gandhian Anna Hazare, Justice Dalveer Bhandari of the International Court of Justice, The Hague, and DR Mehta, founder BMVSS congregated in Parwadi, Maval for the inauguration of Abhay Prabhavana. To provide spiritual blessings were Padma Shri Gurudevshri Rakeshji (Dharampur), Padma Shri Acharya Chandana Ji Maharaj (Veerayatan), and His Holiness Siling Tongkhor Rinpoche, representing His Holiness The Dalai Lama.
“Every politician thinks for five years and every socio-economic reformer thinks from century to century. It is my belief that the knowledge centre will inspire generations to come beyond centuries,” said Gadkari. As the dignitaries pointed out, Abhay Prabhavana is a modern-day showcase of Jain values and its relevance in contemporary society. Comprising more than 350 specially commissioned artworks that are spread across 30 high-tech galleries, the museum encourages interactions and immersive experiences. There are audio-visuals, innovative installations and intricate murals on Indian heritage and values.
Among the highlights are the Rishabhdev statue, drawing attention to the first Tirthankar. The centrepoint of the museum is a 30.5 m marble tower that is covered in murals on practices that elevate the soul. The Plaza of Equanimity is designed as a space of calm and spiritual tranquility. “Our hope is that this center will inspire people to explore and connect with the 10 ideals of Indian civilization, expressed through Jainism, such as asi (tools and weapons), Masi (Ink and communication), Kasi (agriculture and animal husbandry) and Kshama (Seeking and offering forgiveness),” said Firodia.
