A 54-year-old woman and her sister-in-law were arrested last week for allegedly running a heroin syndicate in North East Delhi, and 1.049 kg of high-grade narcotics, valued at more than ₹5 crore in the international market, was seized from them, the Delhi Police said.
According to the police, Seema and Samita, 43, were caught while they were allegedly delivering a consignment on a blue Scooty Activa near the GTB Hospital area last Friday, after the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Crime Branch conducted a raid based on a tip-off. The police said they also seized their two-wheeler along with ₹22,900 cash and two mobile phones.
Seema, 54, lives in Nand Nagri, and Samita, 43, is a resident of Shahdara, the police said.
According to investigators, Seema is a “notorious bad character” of Nand Nagri with a criminal record stretching over two decades. She has 10 previous cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and more than 30 under the Excise Act, and is wanted in at least two ongoing NDPS cases this year. Samita, too, has prior cases, including one under the NDPS Act.
The police said the arrests are part of an intensified drive under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), which targets high-risk drug trafficking hotspots across the Capital.
“Seema’s residence was identified as one of the 64 such hotspots in Delhi. She acted as the central coordinator of the syndicate, while Samita provided logistical and ground-level support,” said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch HQ).
Investigators added that Seema has been active in the narcotics trade since 2000, and several of her family members, including her sons, are also facing NDPS cases. The police had earlier initiated externment proceedings against her due to her repeated involvement in drug trafficking.
The heroin, police said, was sourced from the Delhi-NCR belt and distributed across North-East Delhi, particularly in Nand Nagri, which has long been identified as a narcotics hub.
A case under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Crime Branch police station. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network and suppliers.
