Jaspal Bhatti launches independent Recession Party
It’s easy to laugh off the news that Jaspal Bhatti intends to contest elections. After all,it could be just another joke by Indias popular political satirist. But confirming the news from Delhi,Bhatti says that he has already registered the Recession Party with the Election Commission and is now in the process of signing up party members.
While I dont deny my act is a satire on our political and economic situation as you can judge from the name of my party I dont intend this to be a joke. Our primary intention is to create awareness among people about politics but we are also planning on how to have our candidates represent us from various constituencies, he says.
Its no surprise then that his candidates are all going to be comedians from across the country since he feels that comedy is a great tool and comedians have the power of being heard by the common man. Bhatti has already signed up a few but intends to withhold the names till the official press conference that will take place later today in Mumbai.
His campaign too,he assures, will stand out as the party will propagate lawlessness and sign alliance deals with majority parties and push Recession party candidate for the prime ministers position. The funnyman however, confesses that this will be subject to ECs approval of a campaign like this. Weve already sent a letter to the EC requesting them to allow us campaign in our own style as we have no intentions of violating the rules, explained the 62-year-old.
Bhatti candidly states that he isnt very ambitious at the moment but intends to lay the foundation of what will be a serious affair in future. We dont even have a party symbol this year but if we manage to win any seat we are sure we wont be worse than the corrupt politicians that India has at the moment.
