Inquiry against cop after Pune bar operators make bribery allegation, try to self immolate

In a video shared on social media platforms, Gawade alleged that the inspector was seeking hafta (a monthly bribe) from him despite the fact that he was operating the bar and eatery as per law. He said in the video, “I was fed up with the inspector repeatedly seeking hafta and that is why I am forced to self immolate.”

When contacted, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated against the officer concerned following the bar operator’s allegations. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Magar said the inquiry will try to establish facts.

Meanwhile, in an offence registered at Lonikand police station on Tuesday, Gawade and Gajmal were booked on charges of attempted suicide.

Meanwhile in an unrelated case, a traffic constable from Lashkar traffic division who was caught on camera accepting a bribe from a commuter was suspended pending an inquiry.
