Inter-IT cricket: Tech Mahindra and Cognizant also emerge victorious
IBM,HP,Tech Mahindra and Cognizant notched up easy victories against Persistent Systems,BMC,Symantec,and ClearPoint in their respective league matches at the ongoing S1 Inter-IT cricket tourney held at the Poona Club and Tata Motors ground.
Playing against Persistent systems,IBM won the toss and elected to field on a flat Tata Motors wicket. However,the farsightedness of the IBM team was displayed when they managed,through some disciplined bowling to restrict the Persistent batsmen to a total of 136 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Aditya Gokhale 53 (54 balls,8 Fours) and Vivek Patil 33 (33 balls,5 Fours) shared a first wicket partnership of 77 runs in 70 balls,but after they got out,the Persistent innings folded up quickly for just 136 runs on board. IBM however did not find batting easy on the pitch in the second half of the match,as they had to struggle to get to the requisite total of 137 runs. IBM lost seven wickets in the process but under some fiery batting Ashutosh Rajput 39 (41 balls,5 fours and 1Six),Vishal Sarmarkar 25 (26 balls,3 fours),Kiran Lagad 25 (18 balls,5 fours) managed to pull off a victory over Persistent in the 18 th over with 11 balls to spare.
In a closely contested encounter,Cognizant won their match against Symantec by a close margin of 5 runs. Winning the toss and electing to bat first Cognizant managed to score a decent 149 runs for the loss of 9 wickets,with Mandar Kulkarni inflicting most of the damage on them with a fiery spell of 5 wickets for just 45 runs. It was contributions from Paresh Deshmukh 25 (24 balls,1 four and 2sixes),Sagar Punjal 20 (15 balls,4 fours) took them to the total. Chasing 150 for a victory Symantec looked set to achieve the target but they ran out of balls to achieve the total.
