"The animal wasn't able to come out, so we rescued the animal using a wooden plank. Villagers have been instructed to cover the drainage tank properly,” said Range forest officer Vaibhav Kakade. (Source: Special Arrangement) A team of the state forest department rescued a ‘taras’ (hyena) from the drainage tank of a residential society in Pune district.
Forest officials received a call around 8.30 pm on Friday that a Hyena had fallen into the drainage tank of the Akash Ganga society in Ale village in Junnar taluka.
Range forest officer Vaibhav Kakade with his team reached the spot, and rescued the animal from the drainage tank using a wooden plank around 9.45 pm. The hyena was then released in the forest.
“The drainage tank was covered with a tin sheet which was rusted. When the hyena likely walked over the sheet, it broke, leading to the hyena falling into the tank. The animal wasn’t able to come out, so we rescued the animal using a wooden plank. Villagers have been instructed to cover the drainage tank properly,” said Kakade.
