Justice Santosh Hegde said on Monday that he expected the Parliamens Standing Committee to arrive at a decision on the Jan Lokpal Bill within at least four weeks. Once the government agreed on the three demands and forwarded the Jan Lokpal Bill to the Standing Committee,it is not fair for us to give them a time-frame to arrive at a decision. But we are hoping that the decision will be taken within four weeks, he said.
Speaking to the media after delivering a lecture on Jan Lokpal Bill at Nehru Memorial hall,Hegde said that his statement last week that Hazare should break his fast was out of concern for Annas health.
Hegde said that they want to make voting mandatory. The 25 per cent purchased voters matter only when 40 -45 per cent of population votes. But this 25 per cent will not matter when 90-95 per cent people exercise their franchise, he said.
Arun Bhatia, president of Peoples Guardian Party said that they would initiate the demand for an inquiry as to why Hazare was arrested and sent to Tihar jail.
