She grew up following her mother around,as the latter shopped for fabrics, talked to tailors, discussed concepts and colour combinations. So it was no surprise that Megha Samor not only made fashion designing her career, but also took on the responsibility of bringing an element of freshness to her mothers 15-year-old label. Together, they started a venture and named their label,Samor, which debuted at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive 2010,with a collection, titled Media. Their famous newspaper print spread like wildfire. Since then, the duo has come out with 13 collections, the latest one titled Painted wings, which was showcased at LFW W/F 2013 and is on display at Rudraksh couture store,Aundh, till September 30.
My mother has been painting for a long time. I liked one of her paintings so much that I wanted to wear it. I got it printed on a fabric and made a dress for myself. Then I thought of using her paintings as prints for our next collection. I sat down with her and we discussed ideas for paintings, which could be used as prints for a range of outfits, says Megha. The prints range from a variety of birds to a range of floral designs. While some of Pragyas paintings were transformed into print, others were used as motifs for embroidery and decorated with embellishments.
Its my mother who works with the colours; I mostly work with the cuts, says Megha, talking about the work division. The saying like mother, like daughter holds true for us. Most of the time,we agree on the same things. However,my mother brings in experience and traditional elements of design to the label, while I bring constructional and modern designs, says Megha.
