Green Power

February 26 was celebrated as World Pistachio Day and thus the focus was on the health benefits of this nut. “All nuts have tremendous health benefits and should be the ‘go-to’ snack rather than farsan and oily foods. Pistachios are cholesterol-free and nutrient dense, high in thiamin,B6,potassium,phosphorus,and iron. For the weight conscious,it is important to exercise in moderation when consuming pistachios as they are high in fat, albeit good unsaturated fat. These little nuts have the highest level of phytosterol (the sterol that keeps your cholesterol in check) and are a powerful source of fibre, both of which reduce the absorption of cholesterol from the diet,” says Rita Date, nutritionist with Lakshya,an organisation that trains upcoming sportspersons.
