Medical Ethics

Dr Sanjay Gupte of FOGSI (The Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecological Societies of India),has said that news of triplet being born to a 66 yrs old woman at Hissar cannot be lauded as medical achievement. He said that the patient in this case was extremely fortunate that she did not suffer from medical complication. However this procedure especially the triplets at this age would put the patient at undue risk which is not acceptable on medical ethical grounds. In a statement issued he says that the ICMR has clearly put down the guidelines as regards the age of the patient for the ART procedures and that all the gynecologists and ART specialists of our country need to stick to these guidelines even though they still have not been converted into a law. The federation would like to clearly disapprove this act which goes beyond the limits of medical ethics.
