Medicine provide temporary relief for back pain which can be so severe that it restricts daily activities. The common causes of back pain are continuous sitting in a fixed position and lifting heavy loads and bending. Says Dr Avneesh A Gupte head of Neurosugery,Noble hospital,”At times relaxation exercise protocol is the best treatment. However,a surgery is required if the complaints of slip disc are severe. In such cases a MRI is compulsory in order to see the slip disc. A slip disc is technically called prolapsed disc. A small slip disc does not require surgery. However if the patient complains of severe pain and the MRI scan shows a large piece of disc that has slipped out of its place then a simple surgery is the best option,” says Gupte. The simple surgery provides quick relief from back pain and most patients start walking comfortably within two – three hours. Spine surgeries have a high success rate due to the availability of advanced hi-tech MRI scans for accurate planning and diagnosis and safe an.aesthesia
