Special Heart Day
A ‘Special Heart Day’ will be observed on April 28 by Sahyadri hospital,Hadapsar. A cardiac health camp will be conducted and cholesterol,triglycerides,ECG and two D ECHO tests will be conducted at the cost of R 299. Heartache and cardiac problems have emerged as the most common lifestyle and work-related diseases today. Due to modern techniques and advancement in the medical field,it can be diagnosed early.
Surgery workshop
The first international workshop on advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery will be held from April 29 till May 1. This is the first conference of Galaxy Care being held under the aegis of Symbiosis University. The workshop is focused on advanced laparoscopic procedures in Gynaecology,surgery and Oncosurgery. The main attraction would be live Robotic surgery on all the three days. “We will be focusing on pelvic and thoracic anatomy”,said Dr Shailesh Puntambekar,adding,”The procedures are,thus,chosen accordingly so that it is beneficial to surgeons and gynecologists,as well as the oncosurgeons.”
Doctorate
Dr Anuradha Venugopalan from the Center for Rheumatic Diseases (CRD),Pune,was awarded a PhD by the University of Pune recently for her research project on immunologic and genetic markers of rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of inflammatory arthritis. After completing the project in CRD,she worked under the guidance of Professor Renu Bharadwaj,dean,B J Medical College and Dr Arvind Chopra (director and chief rheumatologist,CRD,Pune).
Unique eye operations carried out
The KK Eye Institute recently held its ‘Vision in Action’ week,where they invited world renowned cornea and cataract specialist Dr Balamurali Krishna Ambati. “The K K Eye Institute also took up the self-initiative to screen over 250 children from two blind schools. Through the screening process,three were selected to receive very unique,intricate eye restoration operations during the week,said Renu Wadhwa,CEO. The institute carried out the Boston Keratoprosthesis Procedure (artificial corneal transplant) on an 11-year-old boy,who was unable to see from both his eyes. The Pediatric Keratoprosthesis carried out at the K K Eye Institute this week,is one of the first times this procedure has been done in the state of Maharastra for a child. Two other children of the blind school underwent surgery,one a combined penetrating keratoplasty (full thickness corneal transplant) combined with phacoemulsification with multi-focal lens implantation,and teh other was given a Descemets Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK).
