aMedical check-up camp
The Samarth Police Station,Somwar Peth,recently organised a free medical check-up camp. Activist Praful Kothari initiated this camp,with senior police inspector Sanjay Bhambure and his collegues helping in its organising. The camp included counselling and diagnosing various diseases,orthopedic diseases,ENT and other general medical issues,recieving an overwhelming response,with around 2000 people visting it.This camp was specially meant for the employees of the police department and their families.It was inaugrated by Arvind Shinde,chairman of the Standing committee. Dr Shrinivas Sharma and doctors from Jehangir hospital,Red Cross Society and Samarth Hospital extended their help and guided the patients. Around 844 people underwent free eye check-up and were given spectacles in the camp.
A unique race
Pune-based portal on general and civic issues,Cityblog,recently organised the Cityblog Olympics for differently-abled children. The event was held on World Mentally Handicapped Day. Fourteen different schools participated in competitions like lemon and spoon race,weaving beads,carrom,and the like. A total of 400 children and adults had a great time at this awareness initiative. Cityblog also financially supported Jeevanjyot to raise more sensitivity towards mentally challenged children
Seminar on neuro-rehab
The Child Guidance Centre (CGC) of Sahyadri Hospitals has organised a seminar on ‘Neuro-rehabilitation in a Clinical and Educational setting’. The one-day seminar will be addressed by Dr Adele Diamond (University of British Columbia),Dr Akila Sadasivan,Dr Keshav Kumar (NIMHANS) and professor Uday Athavankar (IITB). The seminar will be held on January 2,2011,at the CGC and will be open to both students and professionals.
