Author and artist,Fatima Ahmed launched her novel In Haleema’s words at Open Space,Kanchan Lane on October 12. Characterized by lyrical passages,the novel deals with a young girl from a muslim-conservative family who discovers Bombay with her close friend Parvati,against the background of the 1960s. The novel documents the experience of the protagonist,Haleema,as she travels away from her home town,Hyderabad,for the first time and comes across the hippie movement,marijuana and LSD. Ahmed confesses of introducing autobiographical elements in her book. “ Some editors told me that I don’t write in a modern way. But I wanted my story to be simple and easy-reading,” says Ahmed.

Rap Attack

From light hearted humour to serious issues of the society,the desi rapper,as he calls himself,Tanmay Bahulekar,rapped away his feelings and expressions at High Spirits on Friday. Sporting a Nehru jacket over a half sleeved t-shirt teamed with six-pocket three fourths,Bahulekar,popularly known as Microphon3 started his performance with a poetry titled Rainmaker’s Shack,which narrates his experiences on a trip to Lonavala. The track titled Lights,Camera,Action,which is also called the ‘Smoke song’,by the artist,speaks of the life of a performer,where he is under pressure on the centre-stage. Another song titled the Bachelor’s song speaks of how stags are not allowed entry into nightclubs and Forveer Bombay speaks of the mind state of every person in that city who is affected by the lawsa dn moral policing that goes around nowdays. Listed as one of the front runners of the Indian hip hop scene,Microphon3 has been a poet for the last decade and a half. The extensive rapping session also included some heavy-duty beat boxing by Allen D’souza.
