If the Best-5 decision did not bring ICSE students much reason to cheer, the guidelines for sports grace marks, released by the department of school education, did. According to the guidelines, students of ICSE as well as other boards, who have participated in any state, national or international sporting event, will now get 25 grace marks. Earlier, this was limited to SSC students.
A student who wants to apply for this benefit will have to produce photocopies of his/her respective school principal’s letter, assurance certificate of participation by the student and the district sports officer’s certificate along with the admission form as a proof that he/she have participated in a state, national or international sporting event. This benefit will only apply if the concerned student’s aggregate marks does not exceed 100 per cent after the allotment of the grace marks.
The guidelines are in tune with the Bombay High Curt’s directive of July 15. The guidelines were revised after a few ICSE students challenged the previous one which considered only SSC students. According to the new guidelines,a student should have had participated in sporting events June 1,2009 and May 31,2010.
The guidelines also state that the benefit will only be applicable to sporting events recognised by the State Directorate for Sports and Youth Affairs.
Students will get a maximum of 25 marks, irrespective of the number of events he/she has participated in. Students can get further details on http://www.dydepune.com,the deputy director’s website.
