The festival will attempt to showcase work of filmmakers who have made films on the environment
Giving a thought to nature, whilst entertaining the masses is a thought that the organisers of the Vasundhara International Film Festival have been promoting ever since the festival started three years back and the fourth edition of the same, which flagged off on February 14 at the Yashwantrao Chavan auditorium promises to continue doing the same. The festival offers an inner perspective into the ecological conservation efforts that are being undertaken from around the world and opportunities to participate in associated activities. The festival this year will also showcase films made by young children who wish to work for the cause of environmental protection.
Viraj Dinesh Gapchoop,a twelve-year-old,class seven student, will be showcasing his short film ‘Save water’ that talks about how water can be reused at very little cost. Emphasising on the urge to inculcate simple habits rather than doing complex things,he explains,”We can enjoy a bath even while sitting in the tub, subsequently the tub will store at least three fourth of the actual water that can be further utilised for things like cleaning of toilets and other purposes.”
This is the fourth year of the festival and the official theme for it is Save Tigers. Based on the same theme,city-based professional; Rupak Karoldkar will be screening her 12-minute- long documentary on tigers named Nation’s pride -The endangered Stripe. She says,”It is not exactly a film but moreover like an audio-visual presentation in which people are shown about the repercussions of poaching and also aim around that how it can be deterred”.
Young change makers; in the city are doing their best to create an awareness regarding the environment and several endangered species of animals. Taking a cue from it,city-based dentist Mayuri Panse has compiled the work done by Baba Amte and his family, for orphan animals in the remote and Naxalite affected area of the state,on celluloid in her short film titled Amte’s Animal Ark.
Stressing on imparting knowledge about environment at early age of life,Sanyog Mohite,a young environmentalist, who is screening his one-minute short film,Do you? says,”We need to make our children aware about environmental issues as a part of their value education so that they could take the issue of environmental protection forward.” One of the interesting things in the film is that it is sans dialogue. Another film that depicts the struggle of the masses against environment atrocities practiced by the municipal authorities of cities is the film Bubble of development by Pradeep Khare.
