Gokhale wins chess tournament

Jayant Gokhale came first in the test event of the Every Sunday Chess Championship on Sunday.

The second year of the championships will commence on June 20. Star Sports Club will join hands Global Mind Sports Foundation and Pune District Chess Association to conduct the next round of the competition,said a press note issued here.

Gokhale secured a total of 6.5 points and won Rs 500 along with a trophy. Soham Datar came in second with 6 points and earned himself Rs 300 along with a trophy.

Kanad Aphale was placed third with 5.5 points and earned himself Rs 200 along with a trophy. Ranvir Mohite came in fourth and Swapnil Indapurkar came in fifth with 5 points. Vedant Bahirat won the under-7 trophy while Pranav Rathi won the under-9 trophy. The best under-11 trophy went to Pranav Jagtap; the best under-13 trophy went to Siddhant Gaikwad; the best under-15 trophy went to Atharva Mule and the best under-17 trophy went to Rohan Joshi. Akanksha Hagawane won the best ladies trophy while Laxman Khude won the veterans trophy,the note said.
