Nashik-based artist Sharvari Luth expresses her thoughts and emotions with vibrant hues of colours themed on abstract versions of flowers
A frame with vibrant hues of pink, green and orange in an artistic swirl placed neatly beside another frame with an abstract painting of a soothingly yellow sunflower. This against a pitch black background, which makes it seem magical, represents artist Sharvari Luth’s passion for art and the theme that has fascinated her since childhood flowers.
As a child,Luth was fascinated with the beauty of the floral world, which she observed around her. Whether it was the vibrant colours or the textures of flowers that caught her attention, she never analysed ,but all she did find herself drawing little flowers everywhere she could, and it was in her childhood that she found her passion to paint. I came to Pune to study Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) from Pune University in 1994,however I didnt digress from my core interest painting. My background as an architect helps me tremendously in terms of colour, form, textures, balance and proportion of my paintings, says Luth who will be exhibiting a collection of 25 oil paintings titled ‘Say it with Flowers’ from October 3 to 9 at Darpan Art Gallery,Senapati Bapat Road.
Each of her paintings has a different colour palette and texture that she is always ready to experiment with. I am enchanted by the beautiful range of colours that flowers possess. From pale shades to vibrant hues they are all there, regardless of their limited life span. Flowers represent so many emotions, from happiness at a wedding to grief at a funeral or even a passionate confession of love, she adds.
Like a true artist at heart,Luth represents her feelings and emotions through her paintings. Her work is motivated by her previous experiences and spontaneous reactions and her art is the conscience arrangement of her mysterious imagination that she brings onto the canvas with bold colours. I never plan painting a particular subject. My sketchbook is my closest ally where the germ of any artistic idea comes alive. I take that idea, sketch it,put it on canvas or paper and watch it reveal itself to me and through my art. I improvise on my theme and my imagination until I bring it to a climax, says Luth, who is inspired by great artists like SH Raza,Laxman Shreshtha,Marc Rothko,Piet Mondrian and Picasso.
Luth loves to travel across the world to explore new places and meet new people. My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience. Everywhere I visit,I meet new people and see new places, all this inspires new ideas in my mind. I use these new inspirations for my architecture or as themes for my paintings, says the globe trotter.
