One of the important events of the art calendar, this late monsoon,is an exhibition at the Devi Art Foundation in Delhi, that kicks off on August 28. The gallery will showcase the works of 36 artists from five countries in an exhibition titled,Home Spun. The artwork offers a spin on the idea of home. Home is a place as well as a state of mind: it has both a locational and an emotional dimension, says curator-critic Girish Shahane. Which explains why the boy from Khagaul,Bihar,Subodh Gupta has constructed a hut made from stacked cow dung cakes. Cow dung is used across rural India, which is why it has featured in this work, says Gupta,an internationally acclaimed artist. The other work that stands out is by Pakistan-based Rashid Rana Desperately Seeking Paradise,is a collage of small images knitted together to form a large skyscraper. Resembling a New York skyline, the work criticises the craze to travel westward. Radhika Khimji and Mithu Sen will create work on-site.
The show will be on till December 27
