The false ceiling of the board room on the third-floor of Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA) here was found collapsed on Monday.
Housed in the administrative building, the board room is located next to the cabin of YASHADA director-general. No loss of property was reported in the incident as the ceiling collapsed directly onto the floor.
Speaking with Newsline, Dr Sanjay Chahande, YASHADA director-general, said the false ceiling might have come down on Sunday. “One side of the structure that supports the false ceiling in the board room has been damaged, resulting in the collapse. Sunday was a holiday and our staffers noticed the damage Monday morning. Nobody was inside the room when it collapsed,” he said.
Ruling out the possibility that rain water leakage could be the reason behind the collapse, Chahande said the structure was only value-addition to the board room. “The false ceiling collapse has nothing to do with the building structure, which is strong,” he said. The repair work was begun by Monday afternoon.
YASHADA is the bureaucratic training institute of the Government of Maharashtra. Its administrative building was inaugurated in March 2005.
