Nazira Suryabhan Mobdharia,41,arrested by the Vishrambag police on Sunday for claiming to be a medical practitioner but did not have the requisite educational qualification and licence,was on Monday granted bail by a court.
On a complaint lodged by Vijaykumar Bhimsen Powar (56),a resident of Shiv Amrut Nagar,Navi Sangvi,the police had booked the suspect under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act,1961.
Sub-Inspector A S Hatkar of Vishrambag police station is investigating the case. Police said Moldharia hailed from Gujarat and she used to treat diabetic patients on Sundays.
A few months back,some citizens had filed a complaint against her with the Pune district administration,following which an inquiry was initiated. Investigations revealed that the suspect did not possess the necessary educational qualification and licence for operating as a medical practitioner. The district administration then directed the Aundh Chest hospital to lodge a complaint against her.
Police raided Mobdharias clinic at Amrapali Society in Sadashiv Peth on Sunday and arrested her. Police said she used to charge Rs 600 per patient. She claimed to have knowledge of Ayurveda medicines to cure diabetes,which she reportedly got from her parents,police said.
