Mittal versus Mittal will help create awareness on the issue of marital rape says the cast and crew of the film who were in the city
Films as well as the audience these days have increasingly improved as they are both moving more and more towards reality. I am sure this film too will be pertinent to that section in every sense, says Rituparna Sengupta as she talks about how challenging was it for her to convert the often-concealed reality of marital rape onto the reel. Karan Razdans film Mittal versus Mittal that revolves around the subject has her in the lead role is set to release this month. The actress along with its writer and director Karan Razdan and lead actor Rohit Roy were in the city to promote the film.
It was very tough as a woman to play the character of the protagonist, which because of the intense emotions it demanded, challenged me as a performer. It is an interesting journey of a women that also indicates that in the end it is she who should stand up against violence, adds Sengupta.
The film also has Suchitra Krishnamurthy and Gulshan Grover as lawyers who,Roy says, have swept the film with their performance,in its second half. The toughest portions of the film were shot in the first seven days and you will see a very raw performance by both of us. My role of a husband is a complex one where I had to portray different facets of behaviour at the same time and more importantly more than being totally inclined towards a womans standpoint it also explores a mans point of view without being critical, adds Roy.
Razdan whose earlier films include Girlfriend and Hawas says he has tried to bring the covered up issue to the forefront,It was around five years back that I first came across the term marital rape and as I surfed the net there were innumerous cases and shocking instances pertaining to it. I spoke to various NGOs,lawyers and was given graphic description by women who had gone through this during course of the study. I would call it s emotional thriller which will absolve the audience through its romance, humor, songs as well as the intense topic it mainly projects, he says.
