Following The Indian Express report on the harrowing experience of a Pune couple who lost their luggage during their honeymoon to Istanbul in Turkey on an IndiGo flight and received it only 15 days later, the airline has now agreed to compensate them.

IndiGo, which had earlier only offered travel vouchers, announced that it would pay the couple Rs 30,000 as compensation, along with a replacement for the damaged trolley bag, valued at Rs 11,000.

Sambhav Oswal and his wife embarked on their honeymoon to Turkey on September 16, staying until September 27. He flew from Pune to Delhi on flight 6E2279 (A321) and then from Delhi to Istanbul on flight 6E11. He was supposed to receive his luggage at the Istanbul airport, but it never arrived. Oswal had stated that despite regular follow-ups and complaints, the airline did not assist him, and he and his wife spent the entire trip without their luggage, which included important documents.

This decision to compensate Oswal came after The Indian Express followed up on the news and due to public pressure generated by his posts on his X account.

Oswal stated that he initially demanded Rs 70,000 to 80,000 from IndiGo for the harassment he faced over the past month, but the airline denied this claim. “At least, they are paying for what they’ve done,” he said.

“After the news report created a backlash, they finally called me and finalised the deal at Rs 30,000, along with a new trolley bag of the same model.”

“The amount barely covers the distress we experienced during the trip and even afterwards, but it is somewhat satisfying to see them take responsibility. I initially demanded Rs 80,000, but their offer started at around Rs 25,000, which I negotiated up to 30,000,” Oswal added.
