Ex-corporator arrested for forging caste certificate

Bundgarden Police on Saturday arrested former MNS Corporator from Mangalwar Peth Kalpana Bahirat for forging a caste certificate to contest the elections from ward no 40 where the seat was reserved for backward caste. She was later released on bail.

In April this year,the Bombay High Court quashed a petition by MNS leader Kalpana Bahirat challenging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) election office decision of disqualifying her as corporator. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on her for allegedly forging a caste certificate. In March,the PMC,after verifying the caste certificate of Bahirat,had announced her disqualification as corporator. She was elected in the 2012 civic polls. Her disqualification lowered the MNS strength from 29 to 27 in the PMC.
