The European Film Festival,which enters its sixth year in the city,has a mélange of movies lined up to enthrall audiences
The European Film Festival,which opened to Pune denizens this Tuesday,is all set to showcase critically acclaimed movies from 17 different nations of the European Union.
Speaking more about the films to be showcased,director of the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) Vijay Jadhav says,This is the sixth year of the festival in Pune and films dealing with a wide range of subjects,from love,suspense,and thrillers to romantic comedies will be screened.
The films that will be participating this year come from nations like Germany,France,Austria and Portugal and also from the far-flung nations of the EU like Slovenia,Hungary,Czech Republic and Slovakia. The highlight of this years festival is the fact that we have incorporated films that have been commercial hits in European countries. Also,another first for this festival is the fact that even in Europe they have not had a festival that has showcased 20 films from all over Europe in a period of just 10 days , adds Jadhav.
Heres what the festival has on offer
n Czech Dreams – Czech Republic: The film is a comedy about a Hypermarket which is actually a huge movie set and how people are fooled into believing its a Hypermarket
n Could this be love – France: A romantic comedy about a divorced industrialist who falls in love with a ceramist and hires a detective to find out the reason as to why is she still single
n Totally Married- Greece: It speaks of a couple Thomas and Lily struggling with marriage and a household with no housekeeper. The movie takes a turn when a 23 year old hooker is asked to help them out by Thomas
n Welcome Home – Austria: The movie tells the story of two police officers who are deported to Ghana and their experiences in dealing with their own prejudices that they have harboured against the blacks
n Sophie Scholl-The Last Days – Germany – The film tells the story of the German rout in Stalingrad during WWII and the story of Sophie and how the Germans commit various atrocities against the members of a organisation called White Rose
n A Perfect Match – Belgium: A grumpy school teacher is forced to search for a wife after retirement only to discover that he is falling desperately in love with his new housekeeper
n Fighter,Denmark,The film is a story of Aicha who breaks all barriers to pursue her desire of becoming a Kung Fu fighter
n Beauty and the Bastard,Finland: The romantic comedy is a story of a fanatic Hip-Hop DJ and a over achiever who fall in love with each other whilst trying to take advantage of each other
n Emmas Bliss,Germany: Max who is dying with cancer wants to escape to Mexico only to wind up at Emmas Pig farm and discover what real happiness is
