Engineer dies of suspected cardiac arrest during cricket match

A 31-YEAR-OLD engineer died of a suspected cardiac arrest after he collapsed while playing cricket in Pradhikaran, Nigdi. Police have registered an incident death pending inquiry into the cause.

Officials from Nigdi police station said the deceased Abhijit Gowardhan Chaudhari lived in Padmini Society in Pradhikaran, and worked as an engineer with a private firm.

“Our initial information suggests that Chaidhari was playing cricket with his friends when he started feeling discomfort and subsequently collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead,” said inspector Shatrughna Mali, in-charge of Nigdi police station.

“While initial observations point to it being a case of death due to a cardiac arrest, we have registered an incident of death pending an inquiry into the sequence of events leading to his death. We will rely on observations and reports of the doctors,” senior Inspector Mali said.
