Dream Date

I am living my dream and there is no different that I want to do apart from doing some more creative fashion photography.

Shooting pictures for calendars isn’t merely about having pretty people stare out of the pictures — it’s more about finding a story in them, about a visual that silently tells a story worth the proverbial thousand words. We talk to photographers across the nation regarding their choice of topics for a New Year calendar photo shoot

Dabbo Ratnani,Fashion photographer
“I am living my dream and there is no different that I want to do apart from doing some more creative fashion photography. I am not missing anything and this keeps me from trying out other genres. I already have been doing calendars since past 11 years and every calendar is my dream calendar,as I put in my creative effort for every picture I click. In any new calendar that I make,I would like to capture celebs in their lesser known avtaars, giving a whole new dimension to their personalities.”

Sanjay Kumar,Dance Photographer
Not surprisingly ace dance photographer,Sanjay Kumar’s theme for a dream calendar is one that would give expression to various dance forms from India, even though the man is equally well known for his pictures of monks and other religious visuals. “Instead of photographing artistes performing live,I’d rather have a dancers performing the Manipuri dance somewhere down south,or the Odissi dance in Manipur. Basically the idea is to incorporate fusion of cultures in the calendar.” Kumar feels that one of the few things that unite a nation so disjointed culturally is dance. “Basically I’d love to use an opportunity like this to do a portray how in spite of all the intricacies and the various internal conflicts as a nation we are yet undivided.”

Gautam Rajadhyaksha, Fashion Photographer
Gautam Rajadhyaksha, who has had a luminous 35 years in film and fashion photography says his dream calendar will be about burning issues and unsung heroes. “I want to capture every aspect of water. From water scarcity, conservation, transportation, preservation to rain water harvesting. The pictures should be able to yell and tell how important each drop of water is,” he says, adding,“However, going by the fact that portrait has so far been my forte,I will prefer to click pictures of people who have not scaled those dizzying heights associated with the word success but are,in their own way contributing significantly to the society.”

Dinesk Khanna,photographer
“I don’t confine to any one genre of photographer. Its all about creativity, which is best when set free. But this makes my work difficult, when I have to choose a few from my collection for a dream calendar. However, for my calendar I would like to click some pictures of strange things and situations, which is peculiar to India. I would call it Double Take, where I would present two extremely contrasting features in the same picture. While it would be gentle enough,it would also make people think and pass on an important message.”

Anees Bhasin,Travel Photographer
Travel Photographer Anees Bhasin, who has travelled across the nation and the globe in search of ‘moving images’,says,“While I was in Germany last year I had a chance to photograph the Oktober Fest, beer festival, and I’d definitely like to do a calendar that would feature breweries from across the globe, along with a small write up about them.” While,he feels that the beer culture is still far from being popular in India, the concept of having a calendar with famous breweries across the world is something that would appeal to people both for its quirkiness and also for its sheer freshness quotient.”
