DP for old city made public

The much-awaited draft development plan for old parts of the Pune Municipal Corporation was made public on Thursday for citizens to file their suggestion and objections within a month.

The much-awaited draft development plan (DP) for old parts of the Pune Municipal Corporation was made public on Thursday for citizens to file their suggestion and objections within a month.

“The civic administration has dropped 95 of the 220 suggestions made by elected representatives on the draft DP in the general body meeting. These suggestions were not as per the Maharashtra Region Town Planning (MRTP) Act,” said city engineer Prashant Waghmare.

He said the citizens can file their suggestion and objections by April 27 after which hearing will be conducted by the planning authority comprising three members of the general body and four representatives from the state government. “After the changes, the draft will be again tabled in general body for final approval before it is sent to the state government for its nod,” Waghmare said.

The previous DP that was prepared in 1987 for 20 years expired in 2007. However, the civic administration failed to prepare a new DP on time.

In December,2011 the draft of the revised DP was tabled by the administration in the city improvement committee. The committee took a year to work on the draft and sent it to the general body for approval. The elected representatives suggested 220 changes in the draft and approved it after a marathon discussion. The revised DP is applicable to 146-sq km of the old city.
