The health and medical department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday issued notices to three doctors who failed to turn up at the civic-run hospital for a post-portem on Sunday night. The PCMC said that the doctors had been negligent in their behaviour and it reflected their lack of seriousness towards the profession.

One of the doctors had reportedly gone to Solapur when he was not even granted leave by the YCMH superintendent. Another had switched off his mobile and the third one had excused himself saying that he was leaving for somewhere far away from the hospital and hence would not be able to make it.
Dr Roy said, “One of the doctors was not given leave by the YCMH chief due to paucity of doctors for performing post-mortem. Yet, he did not bother and went on leave. Another doctor switched of his cellphone. Doctors are supposed to be on call 24 hours, but this doctor conveniently switched off his cell. The third doctor’s excuse too was not acceptable.” All the three doctors are permanent employees of PCMC.
“In a situation like this, anything can happen. The relatives might flare up resulting in an untoward incident. Therefore, to avoid such ugly occurences, I myself had to do the post-mortem. Since I was qualified and experienced in doing so, we could save the situation from going out of hand,” Dr Roy said.
The PCMC medical chief said that PCMC hospitals are already facing shortage of experienced doctors and they are trying their best to meet the situation with the available medical staff. “Therefore, we expect everyone to cooperate and raise their bar so that we could give the best medical services to our citizens despite facing severe odds. Such attitude among doctors would not be tolerated,” he said.
