Speaking to The Indian Express, Dr Dixit recalls one of the stories—of a Latur professor Sham Mendve whose HBA1C (average blood glucose levels in the blood for 2–3 months) was well under control after following the modified lifestyle plan. ‘The professor had an HBA1C of 10.1 (normal level is below 5.7 per cent) when he met me sometime in 2017. In the last six-seven years he has consistently followed the plan to ensure his HBA1C levels are well controlled,” claimed Dr Dixit – who is a professor of community medicine at BJ Government Medical College.
“It is all about sustaining a proper lifestyle with reduced the frequency of eating that contributes to weight loss, losing that belly fat and preventing diabetes,” Dr Dixit said. Dr Dixit who is the Chairman of ADORE Trust said that 12,000 patients were enrolled across 14 diabetes reversal counselling centres in the country.
“There are approximately 3,000 patients at Pune, Nashik and Nagpur centres and the aim is now to reverse diabetes in 1,000 patients by August 2025,” Dr Dixit told The Indian Express.
The book was released at a programme held at the Dr KH Sancheti Auditorium, IMA House, on Sunday evening. The programme was organised by Association for Diabetes and Obesity REversal (ADORE) and the Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Programme.

Senior Physician Dr Suresh Shinde, Senior Pediatrician Dr Jayant Navarange and Vice President of Infosys Pravin Kulkarni were present on the occasion. At the event, gynecologist Dr Suhas Deshpande from Karad, pediatrician Dr Suhas Choudhary from Kalyan, and retired military officer Vitthal Thorat narrated their stories on lifestyle modification. Shatakshi Dasture has written the book in English, while Dr Ratnakar Gore and Dr Suhasini Bhalerao have contributed to the Marathi version.
The book includes 91 stories and according to Dr Dixit, sustaining a lifestyle that aims at reducing weight, waist circumference, HBA1C and reduction of fasting insulin is extremely important.
Dr Jayant Navarange emphasized following simple rules put forth by Dr Dixit for a better lifestyle. He also highlighted his participation in the ‘90-Day Weight Loss Challenge’ organised by Dr Dixit, and at the same time urged everyone to actively join it too. “Prevention of diabetes is better than cure and hence we have been supporting ADORE trust,” adds Pravin Kulkarni from Infosys Foundation.
“Reports indicate that 11-12 crore of Indians are diabetic, and every 4 out of 10 people have some of the other problems related to obesity, blood pressure, and even teenagers and school-going students are falling prey to being pre-diabetic or diabetic. Hence, immediate steps should be taken to curb such a big challenge ahead of us,” Kulkarni added.
