Deshpande-Dhamdhere duo wins u-13 doubles title

Tanika Deshpande and Sanashree Dhamdhere claimed the first title in the District Badminton Championship organised by the Pune Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA).

Tanika Deshpande and Sanashree Dhamdhere claimed the first title in the District Badminton Championship organised by the Pune Metropolitan Badminton Association (PDMBA). The championship is being played at the Modern PDMBA complex.

The duo of Deshpande and Dhamdhere captured the under-13 doubles title as they beat Shivani Deshpande and Aditi Mahajan 21-19,21-9 in the final.

The first game of the match was a close-run affair with both sides battling hard. Deshpande and Dhamdhere managed to win the first game through a combination of accurate placement and good anticipatory movement. But in the second game,the duo was in complete control as they clinched the title.

In the first of the girls’ under 19 quarterfinals,Aditi Kale thrashed Chitra Shinde. The scale of Kale’s dominance was such that Shinde did not manage to win a single point in the first game. In the second game,she just managed to nick two points off Kale before the latter wrapped up the game.

Revati Devasthale ended Riya Jail’s challenge 21-9,21-11. Jail put up a spirited challenge but Devasthale’s experience and superior attacking play ensured that she booked a semifinal berth. In the third quarter-final match,Sanchi Dham defeated Rucha Brahme in a close encounter. The final score was 21-16,21-18 in favour of Dham.

In the girls under 15 pre-quarterfinals,Purva Barve continued her fine run in the tournament as she brushed aside Anushka Chaphekar 21-9,21-6. Gauri Kinikar defeated Keerthi Gulvadi 21-6,21-11. Amarja Kulkarni also marched on into the quarter-finals as she beat Kalyani Pundlik 21-17,21-10. Vaibhavi Kulkarni crashed out of the championship,losing to Shriya Bhagwat 21-11,21-9.

Arya Bhivpathaki defeated Rohan Kulkarni 21-19,21-3 to book a spot in the quarterfinals of the boys’ under-15 category. Tejas Deo,Aniruddha Mayekar and Rishabh Deshpande also recorded victories to progress to the quarters.

In the boys’ under-17 doubles quarterfinal matches,the pair of Rohan Devasthale and Ishan Vaidya defeated Hritivik Ambekar and Mihir Vinze 21-10,21-10. In the second last-eight clash,Pratik Bhange and Aditya Shendge prevailed over Pranav Behere and Niranjan Pendse 21-9,21-7. Arya Bhivpathaki continued his fine run in the tournament as he teamed up with Rishabh Deshpande to send Ishan Mehendale and Kunal Patil out of the tournament 15-21,21-17,21-16.
