NDRF Raising Day on January 19

*The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) battalion in Pune will present a demonstration in front of the NDRF High Command in Delhi on the first NDRF Raising Day on January 19. The Pune battalion,based in Talegaon,will present a 35-minute demonstration displaying various rescue operation skills such as Chemical- Biological- Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) rescue,high-rise rescue,collapse,medical first response and so on. “For instance,we would be depicting a scenario wherein an explosion takes place in a hypothetical building called Shubham Complex,the manager calls NDRF and we then rescue about 10 victims,provide medical assistance and so on,” said Alok Awasthy,commandant,NDRF,Pune. The team of 60 has been practising for over a month for the drill that would be witnessed by Home Minister P Chidambaram and senior NDRF officers. “The event will also include an exhibition with stalls throwing light on flood water rescue,CBRN,community awareness and so on,” he added.

NDA celebrates Raising Day

*THE National Defence Academy (NDA),Khadakwasla,celebrated its 62nd Raising Day on Sunday. Jawaharlal Nehru,the then Prime Minister of India,laid the foundation stone of the institution on October 6,1949. Six years later,the NDA was formally inaugurated on January 16,1955,by Morarji Desai,the then Chief Minister of Bombay State. Today,the Academy stands tall among all service training institutions in India,having produced almost 30,000 officers who have fought valiantly on land,sea and air,said a press release. On the occasion,NDA commandant Lt Gen Jatinder Singh laid a wreath and paid homage at the Hut of Remembrance to the gallant officers of the NDA,who laid down their lives for the nation. Cadets,officers,staff and NDA alumni from the city also paid homage and took the pledge of,‘Service Before Self’,the release said. NDA employees were awarded motivation awards for their services.

TA cycle expedition

*AS part of Territorial Army Day Celebrations and the Prime Minister’s TA Day Parade to be held in New Delhi,811 Engineer Regiment ONGC (TA),a departmental Territorial Army (TA) unit with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is conducting a Trans-India Cycle Expedition that will cover several states across the country,including Maharashtra and Gujarat in its first phase. The event was flagged off by SN Singh IPS,executive director,ONGC,on January 11.

The expedition has been going through ONGC plants/establishments at Vadodara,Jambusar,Gandhar,Ankleshwar,Hazira in Gujarat and at Uran in Maharashtra. The unit is responsible for the operation of ONGC plants across the country during any national crisis/emergency,said a press release. Compiled by Pranav Kulkarni
