HEMRL annual magazine released

Urja,the annual in- house magazine of the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) was released citing the occasion of women’s day at the DRDO lab in the city. A magazine that contains articles written by women employees,Urja was unveiled at the hands of Dr. Madhavi Mehendaley,ophthalmologist who was the chief guest of the event. Also present on the occasion was Dr A Subhananda Rao,director,HEMRL. The director,in his address,touched upon a number of topics throwing light on the history of Women’s Day and its importance in India. “A lot needs to be done for the women particularly from rural and tribal sectors. Also education to children must be compulsory in these areas,” he said. The chief guest enlightened the audience on how the combination of Science and Fine Arts had made her career and life more meaningful. Sharing her experiences,she advised that Women should pursue their passions alongside,for a balanced personality.

MBT Arjun inducted into Armoured Regiment
The indigenous Arjun Tank was formally inducted into one of India’s elite Armoured Regiments by Lt Gen A K Singh,GOC-in-C Southern Command on March 12 at Jodhpur. He reviewed the parade that was attended by many senior officers of the desert corps and serving soldiers along with veterans of 75 Armoured Regiment. He voiced the collective pride of Indians on such a modern and sophisticated main battle tank being produced indigenously. The ceremony also marked the passage of T-55 Tanks from the inventory after forty years of reliable service. Many of the veterans present were moved by the departure of their trusted tank. 75 Armoured Regiment was raised in captured Pakistan territory in march 1972. After successfully fighting the 1971 war,three independent armoured squadrons were merged to create the regiment. The event also mared the 39th raising day of the regiment. Over 100 retired officers and jawans attended the celebrations.

DIAT convocation on March 18
The fifth convocation function of the Defence Institute of Advabced Technology (DIAT) will be held at Points Auditorium,DIAT at 9 am on March 18.during which the students of Ph.D and MTech courses will receive their degrees. Anil Kakodkar,former chairman,Atomic Energy Commission and secretary,Department of Atomic Energy will deliver convocation address. Dr V K Saeaswat,scientific adviser to the Defence Minister and chairman,Governing Council,DIAT(DU) will preside over the function and distribute the degree certificates,said a press release.
